RBs Roast Beef – The Overcooked Situation of Falcons’ Running Backs

DeMarco Murray. Matt Forte. Marshawn Lynch. Le’Veon Bell. What do all of these players have in common? Aside from the fact that they’re dominant, league-leading running backs? They’re the only dominant running backs on their respective teams. The Atlanta Falcons have struggled the past couple of seasons to find their every down back and as such, have been forced to go with a run by committee strategy. Steven Jackson can no longer put the weight of a squad on his back and the other two (healthy) RBs are just too inexperienced to make up for it. With Smith now on the IR, our birds find themselves up shit’s creek and the paddle is quite small. Read More

Why I’m thankful for Air Canada…

By: Patrick Fuller

Growing up, my family spent most of our family vacations in Daytona Beach, Florida. Usually known for the historic Daytona International Speedway, or to most spring breakers, the only beach that you could drive your car on. Over the years, as we would cruise down International Speedway Boulevard, I began to notice an unfortunate looking high school that never really seemed to show any improvement. Like some sort of ghetto establishment straight out of Compton in the early nineties.  A Michelle Pfeiffer, Dangerous Minds kind of place…  I always thought maybe they started rebuilding the school, ran out of money, and then just said f*ck it, we’re good here.  Meanwhile, every time we drove by, I’m just looking out the window, expecting to suddenly see Coolio come out and start rapping “Gangster’s Paradise.” Little did I know…this was a special place. This was Vince Carter’s alma mater. Mainland Regional High School, Daytona, FL. But if you ride past that same school now, you will see a much improved scene. The Mainland High School Arena, now named after him, complete with a life size suitted-up Vince statue out front. His name emblazoned across the top of the gym doors. Nowadays, this high school would certainly be one of the nicest you will ever see (or at least that I have ever seen). Read More

A Fond Farewell to Todd Gurley

This time of year often brings out the best in most of us who were raised in the South. The start of the Holiday season brings about a sense of gratitude, hope, and of course – thanks. It’s a time spent with family and friends. It’s a time for traditions and reflections, and most importantly it’s a time for appreciation.

Appreciation is something that is often overlooked by us SEC fans throughout the course of the football season. The emptiness and discontent that we endure for nine agonizing months every offseason during the absence of football quickly gives way to an anxious impatience as soon as the season begins. We move from week to week with the same eagerness as a child opening up his Christmas presents in early December after he found their secret hiding spot. It’s a natural symptom for SEC fans wondering if this year will be THE year for whomever they’ve pledged a lifetime of allegiance and loyalty to. Read More

Falcons on Top – Falcons Prediction for Week 12

The Dirty Birds are 4-6 on the season, 4-0 in the NFC South and 2-0 in their last 2 games on the road. But they are concentrating on one record… 1-0. Say what you want about Mike Smith, and yes there are plenty of positives AND negatives, but I really like his new “1-0” campaign for the rest of the season. After that gut wrenching loss in England, “1-0” is the motto, taking it one week at a time. It seems to be working, but will it carry over to a hot Cleveland Browns team?

TheRealPicks Week 13: Burt Reynolds Edition

Welcome back kids!  Wow how about last week huh?!  I told you all I would do better by you moving forward and boy did we kick that off to the right start.  4-1 on favorites which should have been 5-0 barring the unfortunate injury to Duke Johnson and a 7-3 total record for the week.  If you were smart enough to take advantage of that, I congratulate you.  If not, you can’t say you didn’t know any better. Now on to this week’s spread, which unfortunately for you and I both, is quite frankly atrocious.  There are a lot of tough reads and games that don’t look to be very entertaining either. With that being said, I’ll be providing a slightly different line up for you, with the hopes that the strongest plays will carry us all through the week, and the “Honorable Mentions” list is just for confirmation if you already had an eye on one of those games.  As a consolation for this, I will be bringing back some bonus NFL action this week to tide you over until we get back to our regularly scheduled programming.  Read More

Glory Glory to Ernie Johnson

We all love the crew over at NBA on TNT. To me, there is no better crew of misfits than the Shaqtus, Big Ern, Chuck and the Jet. But last week’s UGA/Auburn game, and the obligatory bet between alumni Ernest and Chuck, UGA and Auburn respectively, has produced quite possibly one of the greatest moments in UGA football history (hyperbole of course).  Leave it to Big Ern to come up with such a fantastic wager as this. You know what…I don’t even need to spoil this anymore.  Just watch and enjoy.

SEC Bias: The case for the “most deserving” CFB Playoff Team

The course of a college football season can be described as a lot of different things, ultimately depending on the person, and in large part, the region of the country that they come from. In the vast majority of the country it’s seen merely as something to watch on a Saturday, and for the most part it pales in comparison to professional sports. For example, in New England, CFB is practically non-existent and ranks behind high school JV hockey. However, all one has to do is cross the Mason Dixon Line to see that in the south, it’s more than just a sport, it’s a religion. Read More

SEC Tailgating for Dummies: Week 13 Edition – Chris Marler ft. Shirtless Steve Spurrier

Week 12 proved to be one of my best weekends of the year so far. Not only was my 8 oz Styrofoam cup selection for UGA-Auburn hilarious, but I also went 5-1 straight up and against the spread. That’s what we learned about me. What did we learn from the SEC? Tennessee is hitting stride, Will Muschamp should waterboard his punter and kicker, anybody that’s still questioning Alabama’s defense is a moron, and Todd Gurley is still the most exciting player in the country.
